How the study guide maker works.

You add one file. The guide, the flashcards and the quiz come out of it.

  1. Step 1 of 4

    Add your course material

Upload a PDF, a Word or text file, photos of handwritten notes or slides (up to 3 per upload on the free plan, 10 on Premium), or a lecture recording. You can also paste text. One upload becomes one study guide.

  2. Step 2 of 4

Get your study guide in about a minute

Laxu reads the whole file and writes the guide topic by topic: a short overview, each topic in plain words, a box for every key term, the numbers that matter in bold, and tables that put easily confused ideas side by side. For a PDF or Word file, the median wait is 38 seconds.

  3. Step 3 of 4

    Check yourself as you read

On the web, a Quick check under the first topic asks one question from your own material. Answer it, and the full practice quiz is one tap away.

  4. Step 4 of 4

Flashcards and a quiz are already waiting

Right after the guide, Laxu makes flashcards and a multiple-choice quiz from the same material, with an explanation for every answer. Since 18 October 2026, the median guide has come with 38 flashcards and 35 quiz questions.

When something is unclear

Ask the tutor about any line

Open the tutor beside your guide and ask about anything in it, like why a red blood cell bursts in distilled water. It answers from the same material, so the answer matches your course.

On paper

Download your study guide as a PDF

Export PDF on the deck's menu saves the guide and its flashcards as one file, on every plan, to print or read offline. The flashcards can also go to Anki.

Every guide is also a full deck: the flashcards, the quiz and a two-host podcast of the same material are a tab away.

Example: a study guide from one biology lecture.

Made on 19 October 2026 from a single document: week one of a cell biology course. The guide came out in 7 topics with 5 comparison tables, 4 definition boxes and 8 key terms, about 660 words in all. The same upload gave 40 flashcards and a 25-question quiz.

  1. 01Phospholipid bilayer and membrane fluidity
  2. 02The fluid mosaic model
  3. 03Passive transport mechanisms
  4. 04Factors controlling diffusion rate
  5. 05Osmosis and tonicity
  6. 06Active transport and ion gradients
  7. 07Bulk transport by vesicles

How to make a study guide, with or without an app.

A good study guide is short, sorted by topic and easy to test yourself with. The app does these steps for you; on paper they look like this.

Why the last step matters: in Roediger and Karpicke (2006), students who tested themselves remembered 61% of a passage a week later. Students who only re-read it remembered 40%.

  1. 1.Collect what the exam covers. Slides, readings, your lecture notes and the syllabus, in one place.
  2. 2.Split it into topics. One heading per topic, in the order they were taught.
  3. 3.Write the key terms. Each with a one-line definition, plus the numbers, dates or formulas you must know.
  4. 4.Put look-alikes in a table. Ideas that are easy to mix up, such as hypotonic, isotonic and hypertonic, side by side.
  5. 5.Turn headings into questions. Answer each one from memory before you check the guide.
  6. 6.Keep it short. One or two pages per lecture. If it is as long as the source, it is a copy, not a guide.

What the study guide maker will not do.

  • It writes from what you give it.

The guide covers your file, not the whole course. A missing lecture is missing from the guide.

  • Photos have to be readable.

Blurry or very small handwriting can come out with gaps. A clear, flat photo works best.

  • One upload, one guide.

Each file becomes its own guide. For a whole course, upload each lecture or chapter.

  • Free covers your first upload.

Every guide after that needs Premium.

Questions students ask.

What is an AI study guide maker?

A tool that turns your own course material into a study guide: the topics in order, the key terms with definitions, the facts and numbers to remember, and comparisons laid out as tables. Laxu writes the guide from the file you upload, then makes flashcards and a practice quiz from the same material, so you can test yourself on it straight away.

Is the study guide maker free?

You can start for free, with no credit card. Your first upload is free and gives you the full study guide with its flashcards and quiz. Premium removes the limit on uploads.

What can I upload?

PDF, Word (.doc and .docx), plain text, Markdown and CSV files, photos (PNG or JPG) of notes, slides or textbook pages, and audio recordings of lectures. You can also paste text. For PowerPoint slides, save them as a PDF first.

How long does it take?

In the 30 days to 27 October 2026, the median wait from upload to a finished study guide was 38 seconds for a PDF or Word file and 25 seconds for photos. The flashcards and the quiz are made right after the guide.

Can I print or download my study guide?

Yes. Export PDF on the deck's menu saves the guide and its flashcards as one PDF, on every plan. Flashcards can also be exported for Anki.

Does it work in other languages?

Yes. The guide is written in the language of your material, so Spanish slides give you a Spanish study guide.

Can I change the guide?

Yes. Edit notes on the deck page lets you rewrite, add or remove anything in the guide.
